An intelligence quotient (IQ) score is computed from a set of standardized tests. IQ testing is usually sought after as a pre-requisite for private school admission. However, our IQ testing provides helpful information about the client’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses. Furthermore, recommendations are provided to further enhance the client’s cognitive skills.
Full Psycho-educational Testing
Our protocol for full psycho-educational testing includes IQ testing, in addition to achievement testing and a socio-emotional measure. This testing is chosen when a full educational picture is desired. This comprehensive level of testing provides information about a client’s cognitive abilities, performance in common academic subjects (i.e. math, reading, spelling, writing) while evaluating for the effects of social or emotional factors (i.e. depression, anxiety, bullying, poor emotional regulation).
Specialized Testing
(ADHD, Autism, LD)
Specialized testing allows for a more targeted analysis of the client’s ability, in comparison to a general analysis. Specialized testing includes testing for (but not limited to) Autism, ADHD, Specific Learning Disability (i.e. Math, Reading), Selective Mutism, or Intellectual Disability. Specialized Testing can be discussed if one is seeking full psycho-educational testing and therefore specialized testing can be subsumed under a full psycho-educational testing. However, in many cases, additional specialized testing measures are needed, and therefore, specialized testing can be sought after as an Add On, or as a sole testing request.
First time in therapy? Unsure of what to expect? No worries! Let’s walk through some expectations for therapy:
First, therapy is not advice giving nor is it a one-way exchange.Instead therapy is an opportunity to have an objective dialogue about your concerns with someone who can hear, emphasize, and understand you. Often times, this will resemble a casual conversation so feel comfortable to be yourself. Using specialized training, your therapist will use tools and techniques proven to assist you in processing and overcoming issues that hinder progress.Your first appointment is an intake session. During this initial session, the therapist will cover limits to confidentiality, informed consent, and background information (i.e. family, medical, social background, etc.) that will assist with understanding you as an individual.
